About...
The What Happened To You Project exists because we hear too many people asking the wrong question: "What’s wrong with you?" We are a survivor-led project promoting trauma-informed, non-coercive practices in healthcare and beyond.
Why We Exist
The Project exists to challenge systems that mistake injury for defect. We challenge those who seek to control or subdue rather than understand and care.
What We Believe
Trauma is not an illness, a defect, or a survivor’s failure. Trauma is an injury.
What We Do
Our purpose is simple: research, education, advocacy, and reform.
We research traumatic psychological injury and the ways such injuries influence daily life. We educate organizations, systems, and institutions about what survivors have learned. We advocate for genuine trauma-informed practices and policies in healthcare, law, and beyond.
Where We Stand
Together, we are working to reform healthcare systems. Together, we are teaching our world how to treat survivors with dignity. Together, we are teaching harm reduction.
